About Natchitoches

Natchitoches is the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase territory (1714) four years older than New Orleans in fact. There are car tours to several antebellum homes down the River Road, as well as horse and buggy tours of the Landmark Historic District. There is easy access to Cane River Lake as well as Red River. Natchitoches is known for its festivals and there are many to choose from. Live entertainment is provided at several of the downtown restaurants and bars, and in the summer the Green Market is held every Saturday on the riverbank.
